      Winchester Dairyfest - August 6&7 2010

      Thu, August 19, 2010 - 4:30PM 0 Comments

On  August 6 & 7 2010, My home town of Winchester celebrated our Annual Winchester DairyFest.

On Friday August 6th, I had the pleasure working with Matt Carkner from the Ottawa Senators Hockey Team (Matt was born and raised in Winchester).  That night we welcomed everyone to the Annual Wine and Cheese party.  I got to see a lot of old friends of my mom and dad's that I kind of have been over due to go visit.  It was a lot of fun working at the front door with Matt meeting and greeting everyone that night and I met some of the amazing people who held this wine and cheese event.

Then on Saturday August 7th,  I got the opportunity to be a host for 'Little Miss and Little Mister Dairyfest Pageant'  in this pageant there were 5 girls and 5 boys all from the Winchester area consisting of the ages 5,6 and 7.  I would be asking these little girls and boys 3 questions:

      1) What is your favourite part of Dairyfest?

      2) What is your favourite food that contains milk?

       3) What do you like to do in the Summer time?

After each child would answer the 3 questions, we would have our 3 judges, judge them on their stage presence and how clearly they spoke, the judges would choose one boy and one girl as our overall winner.

Our overall winners were actually brother and sister Cameron and Amber Lynch.  After I announced the winners I got to crown them both with a cowboy hat, and little sashes that said congratulations.

I had so much fun working with these little girls and boys they were a blast, and I think they all had a lot of fun as well. ♥

      Miss Teen Canada-World 2010 Pageant♥

      Wed, July 28, 2010 - 7:46PM 0 Comments

Hey everyone, as you all know I was attending the Miss Teen Canada-World Pageant 2010 from July 10 - July 18/2010. Now since you all have supported me throughout this pageant, I thought I would tell you all about the my experience I had there!

The Pageant was held in Toronto Ontario, in Toronto all 62 finalists from all over Canada travelled to the Delta Chelsea Hotel, this was where we would be staying throughout the week.  During the week we got to travel throughout Toronto, seeing the city and making celebrity appearances.

We travelled all around the city on a very popular 'Hippo Bus'.  We also got to go to the 'CN Tower', that was a lot of fun kind of scary for the girls who are afraid of heights!  One of the most exciting appearances we got to do was, traveling across the river aboard Mariposa Cruise and Damn Heels, while having 'Fashion Television' and 'ET Canada' filming us aboard the ship.

During all the travelling and celebrity appearances we did, we also had stressful times too. We had our Preliminaries which took place at the Delta Hotel on Thursday night July 15th ,  the talent show which took place Friday night July 16th and our most important night Saturday, July 17th the Crowning of the next Miss Teen Canada World 2010 which was held at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre.

On the night of the Crowning of the next MTC-W 2010, I was very excited to show everyone how hard we have all worked on our opening number dance routine and our walks.

After our opening number it was time for the Top 20 Finalist!  At this time I was feeling pretty nervous, they started calling out all the the Fast Tracks in the Top 20 which are:  Most Photogenic, Best Runway, Best Swimsuit Body, People's Choice and most money raised for Free the Children.               I was called down as a Fast Track for 'Best Swimsuit Body' I was so excited, after they announced all theTop 20 finalist it was time for our swimsuit dance and the Top 20 individual swimsuit walks. After that they announced Top 10 finalist, I was the first one to be called down, I was absolutely shocked I couldn't believe that I had made it to Top 10 and now I get to show everyone my beautiful evening gown.

After all 62 girls had shown their evening gowns it was time for the Top10 finalist to individualy show theirs.  After everyone had shown off their gowns they announced the Top 5!  This was when i was really starting to get nervous,  as all 10 of us girls stood there waiting until they started calling our names for Top 5 you could really feel everyone's nerves, then they started to call girls down and I was the first one called I was so excited and nervous I was just kind of num to the whole thing.. haha.  After calling Top 5, it was the most nerve racking time of the whole night Questions Time!  The questions they were going to ask us girls we had no idea what they were, but as Katie Starke came over to ask me my question I started to relax a bit, my two questions were "How do you feel right now?" and "What have you learned about Free the Children Foundation?"  I felt after I answered the question that I did pretty well. After all 5 of us answered it was time to see who the winner was for Miss Teen Canada-World 2010 and would be taking over Siera Bearchell crown.

      Top 5: Channing Smendziuk-Winner Miss Teen Canada-World 2010

Victoria Soo Lum -1st Runner up

Bianca Tomori - Fast Track Best in Runway and 2nd Runner up

Alicia Angus - Fast Track Best in Swimwear and 3rd Runner up

Polina Piskava - 4th Runner up

When I was called as the 3rd Runner up I was vey proud of myself not many girls can say that they were the 3rd Runner up in all of Canada and has the Best Swimsuit Body.  I was very excited and happy for Channing.

During this week I got to meet some amazng girls in whom I will treasure their friendship forever and hopefully reconnect with them at some point in my life, because each one of those girls are beautiful from the inside and on the outside which is so important.

      WMR 'World Medical Relief'

World Medical Relief is a corporation that has been traveling throughout the world distributing medical equipment in a non discriminatory manner without regard to race, colour, gender, religion, nationality or political beliefs.

The goals of this organization are:

       - Relieve human suffering

       - Demonstrate respect for all customers, clients, and patients

       - Collaborate with community organizations to provide services to those in need

       -  Maintain a proactive approach to improve services provided

In 1953, a Detroit housewife Irene Mrs. Auberlin started upon a remarkable mission.  Inspired by a single war orphan during the height of the Korean War, Mrs. Auberlin mobilized her friend's and family to collect food, baby clothing, cribs, and medicines to ship overseas.  Her original goal was to only help one small boy, it then turned into a much larger mission: Relieving the pain and suffering of an entire orphanage filled with 400 hurting children.   Sadly Mrs, Auberlin passed away in 1999, but this was one of her most powerful sayings that she always seemed to use.

I quote her: "Money is dirty. Don't keep it. Give it to us."

World Medical Relief has Contributed over $11 million dollars worth of medical equipment towards Free the Children Foundation.

On Tuesday, January 12/2010 Haiti was struck with a 7.0 earthquake, this has caused severe damage to the country and the population.  That was just one of the times WMR worked with FTC foundation.  Shipments of medical supplies where $1=$10 (made possible through partnership with World Medical Relief that allowed Free the Children to purchase supplies below cost.)

Here is a video of Craig the founder of  Free the Children, while he is in Haiti.  In this video you can see all the medical attention the people of Haiti are receiving, this is all because of the World Medical Relief organization, and other medical teams.

Here are some press releases about WMR and some places that they have been seen or interviewed while distributing medical supplies:

        - The Michigan Messenger

       - Globe Newswire

World Medical Relief Organization became involved with Free the Children a little while back, because when you go to a country that is poor you need more than just food, water and shelter.  You also need medication and medical equipment to help the people in that country recover from local diseases.

Before WMR leaves a stricken area they always make sure that the infrastructure is in place and the medical system is sound.

      Happy Canada Day! ♥

Our hopes are high. Our faith in the people is great. Our courage is strong. And our dreams for this beautiful country will never die.

"Free the Children Fundraiser" In Rain or Shine

      Mon, June 28, 2010 - 12:25PM 0 Comments

In the last month and a bit, we have been planning a baseball tournament to raise money for "Free the Children"Yesterday was the big day I was so excited when I woke up, but when I looked out the window all I saw was rain which wasn't such a good thing, but the show must go on and it did.

In the tournament we had four teams. My boyfriend (Jamie) and I went to the ball diamond early to set up the tarps since it was raining so hard,  we dropped off the barbecue and set up the schedule.  As the teams began to arrive at 8.30am, everyone slowly started to wake up because it was still very early on Saturday morning, rainy and cold out.

As the day went on everyone began to have a great time, since the weather finally cleared up.  Since it rained the field was very wet but we had so much fun with it, when people would run through the fields to catch a ball they would be sliding all over the place.  We would be running to the bases they would be covered in mud by the time they got there because of all the puddles.

At lunch time people were starting to get hungry so we warmed up the barbecue and put on some hot dogs & sausages we also were selling drinks.

After the day was over around 7:00ish.  I talked to some of the players, and they all said "that I had so much fun and we should do this next year" with many more teams and raise some more money for foundation.   I believe that yesterday's baseball tournament was a complete success, I had so much fun and I am grateful to have all these wonderful people around me to support me through this fundraiser and this pageant. Also Jamie thank-you for all your support and help...♥

                                       THANK YOU EVERYONE....♥

      Miss Teen Where?

I was born and raised in a small town Winchester,Ontario just South of Ottawa. The population of Winchester around 3,000 people.  Here you can walk down the street and everyone you see you pretty much know. Winchester is such a great place to grow up in.

When I wake up in the morning I open my blinds and look out onto open fields with horses running around.  We have had all kinds of wild life in our yard from raccoons to deers wandering about.

There are many things that go on in this town from fairs to concerts, parades, fundraisers to good old country gatherings.

During the summer months we have many Country Fairs in the surrounding area.  Some of the most notable fairs are Chesterville, Metcalfe and South Mountain.  We also host a fun weekend in our community in August called Dairyfest.  It was founded 20 years ago to help celebrate the farming community and all the dairy farms in specific. There are horse rides for the kids, entertainment for the parents and also many farms related exhibits all weekend long.

In early December hosts a very unique Christmas parade.  The parade is held the first Friday night on the month.  Many of the business in the area create Christmas floats by taking anything from a simple 1/2 ton truck to a 18 wheeler and totally covering the float in hundreds & hundreds of lights.  All the streetlights are turned off in the town and the floats simply light up the night.

Our town has many older homes a well along with new subdivisions, it creates a very nice mix of homes and the people in them.  For instance my grandma's home is over 150 years old and is classified as a heritage home.  I have learned many things about our town and the people in it from my grandma Angus.  My grandma has lived in Winchester for over 80 years and has seen many changes in this town.  She has lived in her house for 60 years and hopefully will be able to stay there for another 20 years.

One very unique thing about my grandma's house is that it used to be a bank many years ago.  Her washroom is located in the original vault and the walls are over 3 feet thick of cement.

Also a big part of Ontario is Ottawa, the Capital of Canada. I only live about 45 minutes away from Ottawa, and I take all the time I can to visit this great city. There are so many things to do in Ottawa if you are a shopper. We have so any stores and malls here for you from St. Laurent, The Rideau, BayShore.

In Ottawa we have two very unique and architectural significance units.  One very popular one is the "Parliament Buildings" this was built between 1859-1865.  The massive stone buildings are set on the cliffs of Parliament Hill overlooking the Ottawa River and are described as one of the most beautiful government buildings in the world along with the Houses of Parliament in London.

The second architectural significant unit would be the "Ottawa Rideau Canal".  The Rideau Canal opened in 1832, is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America.

Rideau Canal during the winter, Skating Rink, with the Parliament Building in the background.

This canal is used and visited by many all year round, in the summer, canoes and motorboats ply the water, while walkers, joggers and cyclists enjoy the recreational pathways alongside.  In the winter over hundreds of thousands of people come to the Rideau Canal to skate.  Eight kilometers of ice is cleared to open the longest outdoor ice skating rink in the world.  Every February, Ottawa's Capital Region is host to Winterlude, Canada's winter celebration.

There are several stops along the Canal where you can have a seat on one of the benches to catch your breath.  There are also several huts set up where skaters can buy hot chocolate and the famous beaver tails.  Definitely a must see.  Even if you do not skate many people walk along the Canal to check out all the wonderful winter attractions it has to offer.  These are just a couple of unique things our area has to offer so if you are ever in Winchester look me up and I will show you around the neighbourhood.

      Every little girls dreams....

      Tue, June 15, 2010 - 6:16PM 1 Comment

Last weekend, I had a photoshoot done for Miss Teen Canada-World.

These pictures were taken by Vickie "Grace Photography".  During this photoshoot I got the opportunity to meet Grace the photographer's daughter. She is 5 years old and is already so beautiful, and mature for her age.  When I met her she was wearing a crown and cowboy boots just like me.  She told me that when he grows up she wants to be a princess and have a big beautiful crown like mine.  I can see Grace growing up to maybe even being the next Miss Teen Ontario from (Winchester, Ontario).

Grace showed me something, so special about herself, what I mean by that, is that so many young girls and boys look up to people around them like Grace wih me.  I really hope that I can be an amazing role model for these young children and show them that not everything gets handed to you in life, but if you work hard towards your dreams and goals, you can get somewhere in life and you will be rewarded in the end.
